Elise has been a Student Support Advisor (Disability) at South Metropolitan TAFE in Perth, WA for the last 5 years and enjoys working with others from diverse backgrounds. Elise works as part of the broader South Metropolitan TAFE Aboriginal and Student Support Services team to provide support to students with disabilities from an Indigenous background, local and International students or students experiencing disruption to their studies due to personal crises, mental health and other conditions.
Elise has previously worked for 15 years in the areas of disability, employment and social welfare within the federal government (in Canberra and in Perth) and has tertiary qualifications with a background in social welfare and social policy development.
Elise was part of the Pathways 12 Conference Committee held in Perth in 2014. Elise greatly enjoyed being involved in hosting this conference, and being able to meet with other disability practitioners, to promote better understanding of the key issues/challenges for both disability consumers and the disability education sector now and into the future.
Elise hopes to be able to contribute to ATEND in a similar way and be part of encouraging greater understanding of key disability issues and to achieve better outcomes for students/ consumers through the sharing of latest research, best practice and advocacy.
